Digitalisation in Central Asian mining: the effects in numbers

An industry publication has collected digitalisation cases from mining companies across the region. The economic effect of ERG projects is estimated at 55.7 billion tenge. At the Almalyk mining and metals complex, more than 400 machines are fitted with sensors and monitored around the clock. At the Navoi complex, the rollout of information systems delivered a 5 to 7 percent rise in productivity and a 3 to 5 percent cut in energy consumption.

What repeats

The figures of large complexes rarely transfer directly: budgets and scale differ. The order of steps, however, repeats for a mid-sized company as well: first running hours and consumption are counted, then sensors appear, and only after that does forecasting equipment condition make sense.

The reverse order, when a company starts with expensive telemetry while its records do not work, produces good-looking charts and no management decisions.
